We long for the river It bleeds upon my skin The leaves shed their color As the tide comes washing in The bay is so close The ocean’s on the horizon The leaves are ever-changing like my love The breeze is not free Its a product of the churning waters Bringing up what’s been lost to time and place But it’s etched all on your pretty face Let this dirty water cleanse you Let this dirty water fill you from inside Between two states of love and loss Ships carry away our fears and thoughts You know I can’t refuse you So I know we have to part But I hope my words can soothe you Upon the Hudson River Park

Dawn 05:41
This is not what we asked for When the summer went swinging past Our hands in our pockets Our heads in the stars This is just what we asked for We thought the world was ours But we just rented it Like love and rooms and cars The sun goes down It all comes out The night turns to dawn And we’re alone And we’re alone This bed is an ocean The waves all in my mind The caves of devotion All filled with dusty shrines The shadows get taller As the time to grieve has passed We look like daddy long-legs As the time runs down too fast The sun goes down It all comes out The night turns to dawn And we’re alone And we’re alone This night will end And we’ll talk to our friends About the time That we had in each other’s company We’re always playing pretend Every time that we send A momentary glance across the room Hopeful again But there’s nobody there A vacant shadow Grasping for it’s owner A lighter to lend And a mess left to mend Once more And the day goes on And the sun goes down It all comes out The night turns to dawn And we’re alone And we’re alone The sun goes down It all comes out The night turns to dawn And we’re alone And we’re alone Don’t wanna be alone Don’t wanna be alone Don’t wanna be alone Don’t wanna be alone Don’t wanna be alone When the dawn comes When the dawn comes When the dawn comes When the dawn comes

A man once asked me On a damp park bench If I’ve ever seen God And I knew what he meant As a offered a cigarette And I refused to entertain the thought I said, “I hope you find your way To whatever you’re looking for And when you reach this man or woman or thing I want you to look him in the eye And ask him why He spews a stream of confused impatient metaphor” He said, “I’ll be back again one day Meet me at the place where the will meets the way And we’ll share a drink and laugh And reminisce and think On why the leaves have to fall When the trees begin to sway” Oh what you said About strength and sin and the quiet dread Don't pull the columns on your head You should try to be good But you gotta be kind And when you're ready Won't you go back to bed Oh brisk breeze Puts an icy fang inside my bones Just now calling this place my home Now I’m supposed to leave But I got a warrant and a cause I put my bottles on pause And let your scented candles burn to ashes Oh I’m just trying to be good trying to be kind Trying to be filled with some semblance of peace of mind Oh my wine is running down And my patience is on the filthy ground The sun disappears far too early these days But it gives my time to think On why the leaves have to fall When the trees begin to sway Oh happiness In a simple gift Of a cold winter’s night And the winter’s wind Outside of these walls Pedestrian percussion in the halls Doesn’t the ceiling know how to keep a secret? I’m just trying to be good trying to be kind Trying to be filled with some semblance of peace of mind Oh my wine is running down And my patience is on the filthy ground The sun disappears far too early these days But it gives my time to think On why the leaves have to fall I’m just trying to be good trying to be kind Trying to be filled with some semblance of peace of mind Oh my wine is running down And my patience is on the filthy ground The sun disappears far too early these days But it gives my time to think On why the leaves have to fall When the trees begin to sway Why the leaves have to fall When the trees begin to sway

Paradise 05:05
Salt in my pillow Sand in my boots A rusty spoon and laundry chutes All leading up to a prison cell Where the breath turns shallow in a chilly hell The man all laid on starched white sheets He closes his eyes and puts up his feet On the snowy plains of a taut white mattress I asked him where he went and he slowly answered "Paradise, when the sun shines on me Paradise, when you bring the tea Paradise, where I'll stay a while A moment's rest and small relief" In a fragrant alley on the side of the street Where the dogs all grab at scraps of meat Is a girl with eyes that looked like mine 'Til their light was dulled by assembly lines As I came with an offering of homemade bread I buried the hatchet inside my head And asked her the questions she couldn't refuse Her light burned again with nothing to lose and she cried "Paradise, when the breeze comes through Paradise, when I'm missing you Paradise, when the air is clean A moment's rest and small relief" Have I felt the rustling of spring on the wind? Have I tasted the apple of my sin? Is the world to end with a wanton howl? Is my breath still shaky behind my scowl? Have I felt the rustling of spring on the wind? Have I tasted the apple of my sin And laid upon a sturdy limb And felt the air caress my skin and cried "Paradise," when the breeze comes through "Paradise," when I'm missing you "Paradise," when the air is clean A moment's rest and small relief "Paradise," when the sun shines on me "Paradise," when you bring the tea Paradise, where I'll stay a while A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief A moment's rest and small relief Oh-oh-oh hmm

We sowed our seeds When the frost began to kiss the ground And the leaves that had fallen All gathered ‘round All gathered ‘round In a clearing between there and here We said that we’d be back one day And disappeared And disappeared Well my darling you should know The sun will melt the snow One of these days And when the spring comes Will I meet you there? In the melting air? It’s a lot to ask So don’t say yes Just because you’re scared I dug through my trash In the dead of night To find the receipt That described what we had planted And to my despair All written there Was proof That it would not grow where we wanted So I came up with a plan In the early morning For how I was gonna keep it alive A warm cup of tea A blanket and me Guarding against a January sky Oh I tried to leave you a message on your phone But all I got was busy tones So I left you a message I will be there In the morning air This flight will lighten the burden That we both have to share I went to the park But it was too dark I could not find the seedling anywhere When blinded by glare Confused I glanced at my watch And saw you with a flashlight Standing there You held my face Oh close to yours As you said I will be there In the verdant air I would not lie, my darling I’m sorry that you were scared But I thought by now you’d know Oh my darling dear That there’s nothing new under the sun Except for what we grow here And the spectator city Oh it echoed with her words Oh it echoed with her words Oh it echoed with her words (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) The breeze (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) Is not free (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) But I’m gonna let it carry me (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) Let it carry me (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) And I know (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) That there’s nothing new under the sun (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) Except for what we grow (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I’ll be there (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) In the verdant air (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) When the spring comes (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I’ll be there (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) When the spring comes (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) No I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt (I haven’t felt what you haven’t felt) I’ll be there In the verdant air When the spring comes I swear
